A whale in the lake?

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club announced a new fun event to take place on Canyon Lake next week. The family activity is open to all Canyon Lake scavenger hunters, thrill seekers, competitive hunters, neighborhood rivals or fun-loving families who want to track down a whale spotted in the East Bay.

To meet this ‘threat,’ the Yacht Club is bringing together their members to hunt down the whale and make the lake safe once again. In addition, a new unofficial club motto has been adopted: “Canyon Lake Yacht Club. Because we just can’t have rogue whales loose on the lake.”

Each boat that is willing to partake in the all-important hunt is to meet at the Diamond Point Docks at 2:00 p.m. next Saturday (July 25) to pick up an informational packet.

From there, participants will begin their quest to answer trivia questions on items they may see on their quest, go on a scavenger hunt to collect various “booty” and to return the completed puzzles with their boat captain’s name, phone number and email address in the provided envelopes.

“It’s going to be a fun family and household event for people who want to get outside and engage in a competitive activity,” Vice Commodore Ron Wilbur said. “We’re trying to liven things up while also helping people to lighten up and have some fun. We have already heard from many people who have been looking forward to getting out on the lake again and just wanted a good excuse.”

For further information on this specific event, those interested can contact the Yacht Club Hunt Masters Paul and Teresa at 858-472-9388.

Tomorrow, The Yacht Club’s second Sunset Cocktail Cruise of the year will first take place.

“This year we have many new members and we want to give them an opportunity to be part of one of our most popular activities,” Ron said. “The Sunset Cocktail Cruise will allow them to safely meet new people and make friends.”

Anyone interested in taking a cruise on the main lake and then anchoring in Catfish Cove to enjoy the sunset and some nibbles and sips from the goodies brought by boat crew is to meet at the Lodge Courtesy Dock at 6:15 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday). The cruise will depart at 6:30 p.m. and will be led by Commodore Dave Dain.

Participants should bring their own beverages and food. In order to adhere to public health guidelines, food and drink will not be shared.

“Sunset Cocktail Cruises are open to anyone in the community,” Ron said. “At this point, with the current health and safety guidelines, we suggest that participants either have a boat or be part of a household with one.”
