COVID-19 can’t stop July 4th fireworks

Canyon Lake has been putting on arguably the best 4th of July fireworks show in the county for decades.

The COVID-19 pandemic will not stop the show this year. Every year on July 4 around 9:00 p.m. the community is wowed with huge explosions set off from Skipper’s Island, and this year the community is in for a show again, the Canyon Lake POA announced this week.

A typical Independence Day in Canyon Lake normally brings in thousands of guests, as residents host barbeques for their friends and family. How much the pandemic will impact the number of guests who will join residents this year is unknown, but the community will still swell in its numbers.

This year, like every year, reservations are being taken for Happy Camp, although how those reservations are made has been altered.

Happy Camp is not only a popular place for swimming and camping, but it is a fantastic location to view Canyon Lake’s fireworks. Happy Camp is only yards away from where the fireworks are launched.

The campground is a very popular place on the 4th of July, therefore the Canyon Lake POA holds a lottery in order to determine who obtains reservations for the weekend. The lottery allows for all who are interested to have an equal opportunity at winning a campsite.

The Happy Camp lottery began on June 12 and ends today (June 19) at 4:00 p.m.. This year, the lottery is being held completely online. The lottery drawing will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:00 a.m. Campsite winners will be notified by email.

All those who wish to submit entries to the lottery must be prime/associate members or property managers ”‘in good standing.” Only one submission per tract and lot is allowed.

If a site is won for the holiday, then a 3-day minimum reservation at Happy Camp is required. Reservations can be cancelled through July 2. If a reservation is not cancelled and the camper does not arrive, he/she will still be charged for the 3-day reservation at the holiday rate.
