Tennis Club opens courts for youth camps

The Canyon Lake Tennis Club boasts great junior tennis teams and players. Much of that greatness is thanks to the junior tennis players’ hard work and talent. Their coaches and teachers play a part in their success as well.

Thanks to the socially-distant nature of tennis, the courts are still full even during a quarantine and adults and juniors alike can compete and exercise while playing their favorite sport. There are several opportunities for Canyon Lakers to participate in tennis on the local courts.

Being socially distant while learning and exercising is not a problem in the sport of tennis since players are quite a distance from each other. The United States Tennis Association, USTA, has stated that “tennis, if played properly, can be a great opportunity for you to relieve stress, socialize with others and provide much needed exercise.” Tennis can be played safely as long as players practice social distancing by staying at least six-feet apart.

The Canyon Lake POA has continued to keep tennis courts open and has allowed tennis lessons to continue. Courts are available to residents and guests who practice USTA social distancing regulations. Social Tennis is still held on Mondays at 9:00 a.m.

The Winter Junior Tennis Camp was a great success this past winter, according to Canyon Lake Tennis Club social media director Jennifer Denson. The tennis team will be continuing the junior tennis programs throughout the year.

“We can’t say thank you enough to the Canyon Lake Tennis Club for hosting the best Junior Training Camp to date!“ Jennifer said. ”Our awesome Pro Brien Sullivan and his assistants Haley and Kaylin Kielty did such a fantastic job with all these kids. One of the last drills even allowed the kids to show off their tennis skills by using their forehand form and racquet control to win some cool prizes out there on the courts.”

Prizes were coveted drones, Google Play Cards and tennis gear.

Recently, Canyon Lake POA General Manager Erik Kazakoff approved the return of complimentary “introduction to tennis” lessons for any Canyon Lake child age 8 to 18 years old. The classes begin June 10 at 3:00 p.m. and last for 30-45 minutes.

Summer Junior Tennis Camp began Monday and lasts for three months. Participants are still able to sign up. The camp fees are $50 per month for once-a-week lessons held on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. or $100 per month for lessons twice a week, held Mondays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Brien can be contacted for more information at cltcbrien@outlook.com or 951-370-9791.
