Fine Arts Guild reschedules concerts outdoors

Three of the concerts originally scheduled for the Canyon Lake Lodge prior to the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders have been rescheduled for the Holiday Harbor Amphitheater beginning Aug. 1 with the Brooks & Dunn tribute concert. Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild president Ron Martel said these three concerts will be open only to current ticket holders and no additional tickets will be sold.

Logistics will be announced during the coming weeks, Ron said, but ticket holders are expected to use the same tickets they are currently holding for each event. With six-feet social distancing guidelines, the entire amphitheater and the adjoining slope will be required just to accommodate the ticket holder seating. Boats will not be accommodated for these events as no audio will be pointed from the stage toward the lake.

“We want to present this extraordinary music,” Ron said. “But, the safety of our audience has always been and will continue to be our highest priority.”

The three 2020 tribute concerts, for ticket holders only in the Holiday Harbor Amphitheater, are: Aug. 1, Brooks & Dunn (was May 30); Aug. 22, Crosby Stills Nash & Young (was Mar. 28); and Oct. 17, Queen (was in the Lodge on the same date).

The two summer concerts, which would have been open for free to the public, have been cancelled. They were June 20, (Motown Night) and Aug. 1 (Journey tribute). Ron said The Guild hopes to return with similar events in 2021.

Neon Circus will perform on Aug. 1 and is a tribute to Brooks & Dunn, one of the most popular country music acts ever. The group has sold more records than any other duo in any genre. Their hit songs to be performed by Neon Circus will include My Maria, Neon Moon and Boot Scootin’ Boogie. The cowboy legends live on.

On Aug. 22, CSN Express will capture the true look and sound of the iconic group Crosby Stills Nash & Young. This show promises to bring the audience to its feet, with favorite folk-rock chart busters, such as Woodstock, Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Our House, Just a Song Before I Go, Teach Your Children and many more in sweet four-part harmony.

Queen Nation will provide its tribute to Freddie Mercury and Queen on Oct. 17. Songs will include We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, You’re My Best Friend and Another One Bites The Dust.

Although its remaining 2020 events have been moved outside, Ron said the Guild is proud to announce the new audio system at the Lodge is installed, operational and reported to sound “awesome” by audio technicians (and Canyon Lake residents) Daryl Ballou and Larry Garland. The Guild led this sound and lighting proposal and donated $10,000 toward the project.

“The Guild thanks the ever-generous Woman’s Club for its donation of $4,500 and the POA for its leadership, direction and support,’’ Ron said.

The three rescheduled concerts are subject to change based on COVID-19 directives from state and local health authorities.

More logistical information will follow in The Friday Flyer, but the latest information will always be on the Guild website, CanyonLakeGuild.org or on its Facebook page.
