CLPOA sets guidelines for re-opened pool

The Canyon Lake pool opens today (Friday) with new temporary rules and guidelines in place. The renovation and remodel of the Canyon Lake pool and deck was finished in April, but was not able to be opened until today because of county and state-wide stay-at-home restrictions.

The regular capacity of the pool area will be significantly reduced to no more than 96 people in the area at a time. The Canyon Lake POA is toying with the idea of requiring reservations to use the pool, but is holding off until it deems it necessary to implement such a system. Until then, those wishing to enter the pool area will be allowed to enter on a first-come, first-served basis for two-hour periods of time.

The pool will be open for 50 minute periods for lap swim at 6:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., and 9:00 a.m. and 2-hour periods for open swim at 10:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The line outside of the pool will be marked by Xs on the concrete to enforce social distancing. Each swimmer in line will be given a wristband to indicate which two-hour session he or she is assigned to attend. The time will be written on the wristband when the member was in line, in case he or she leaves the line.

Precautions will be taken to ensure safety. Pool manager Valerie Grillo said her staff will wear masks and the employee assigned to check in swimmers will also wear gloves. Valid POA cards will be necessary to bring to each swim session and, during this time of COVID-19 restrictions, no guests will be allowed to enter the pool area.

Social distancing will be implemented inside the pool area by X marks on the pool deck. A plexiglass window has been installed to shield pool employees from those who check in. A plexiglass door will also be installed where the snack bar is, allowing little, if no, physical contact.

The Canyon Lake POA recommends that members wear face coverings while out of the pool and requires members to practice social distancing at all times.

Valerie said she is trying to accommodate households and families who want to sit together by sectioning off areas for them. She would also like to remind Canyon Lakers that even though the pool has restrictions, Sunset Beach is nearby and can accommodate guests.

Per the state’s orders, public events and gatherings are still prohibited. As such, pool activities such as water aerobics, swim lessons and movie nights are still canceled until further notice.
