Canyon Lake girl named Temescal Student of Year

Amanda Martilla, an honor student and athlete with a 4.8 GPA, has been chosen as the Temescal Canyon High School Student of the Year for the Class of 2020.

She was selected for her outstanding academics, extra-curricular activities, service to the school and community and perseverance, especially during these most unique and challenging times, Donna Romo, the Student of the Month/Year Communications Coordinator, said.

The annual award is given by the Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce, which serves the communities of Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake and Wildomar.

Amanda will be majoring in Education Sciences at UC San Diego in the fall. At Temescal Canyon High School, Amanda was named the school’s valedictorian with two other graduates, one being her twin sister Brianna Martilla.

Amanda participated in three varsity sports at the school. She played on the Titan tennis team that won the 2017 CIF Championship. She was named to the All-League Team for three years. She also participated in water polo on teams that won the 2020 league championship and advanced to the CIF quarterfinals. She was a CIF qualifier for three years in swimming and the team won the league title twice. Amanda holds several swimming school records.

Academically, Amanda was a recipient of an AP Scholar, Riverside County Seal of Biliteracy, Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month and TCHS’s Riverside County Student of the Year. She participated in the Society of Women Engineers and Scientists, National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, Interact, and Link Crew.

Amanda never missed a day of school from the day she entered Kindergarten until graduation from Temescal Canyon High School.
