More than 500 free Grab N Go meals were distributed in the Canyon Lake Country Club parking lot last week by The Lighthouse, a non-profit children’s charity based in Canyon Lake. The meals were handed out by volunteers to families with children and senior citizens on Monday and Wednesday.

“It was very exciting on Wednesday to see many of the seniors who’d come on Monday come back,” Lisa Amos, Executive Director of The Lighthouse, said. “The feedback on the taste and the presentation of the meals was very positive and everyone we asked said that because everything was prepackaged, it made them feel very confident in the food’s safety.”

The meals will continue to be distributed by the group at the same location on Mondays and Wednesdays each week. The hours of distribution will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

“We will be continuing the service definitely through the end of May,” Lisa said. “We may extend into June as we see what happens with the shelter in place order and as we continue to access the need.”

Safe social distancing will be implemented and required for drive-thru and walk-up meal distribution.
