Letter: Important Voting

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

As you know, we have elections for our POA Board of Directors every year. The ballots will be sent to you on April 14.

This year we had something happen for the first time in our history. We had the same number of candidates as open positions: two candidates for two positions. The first thought of many of us might be that we wouldn’t need to send out ballots and the candidates would be elected by acclamation, thus saving us between $20,000 and $30,000 in election costs. However, we were informed by the POA that the law only allows an HOA to elect by acclamation if the HOA has at least 6,000 units. Since we only have 4800 units, we have to go through the entire election process.

Now the fear is that many homeowners will not vote, thinking that their vote doesn’t mean anything. However, it is very important for you to vote, as 33% of homeowners in good standing must vote for an official election by election day. If we don’t reach 33%, and we usually don’t, then two days later we only need 25%. We’ve always made the 25%, but sometimes it’s close. If we don’t make the 25%, the election can go on for months, which costs us more money. That will affect your future dues.

To save all of us on future dues, please mark your ballots for one or both candidates and sign your envelope and mail it back. If you don’t want to vote for either candidate, at least mark your ballot for quorum and mail it back. It will only take five minutes for the entire process, in order to save Canyon Lake thousands of dollars in future costs.

Please vote!!

Chair, Canyon Lake POA Finance Committee
