Only two candidates for two vacancies enter POA election

There is no mystery as to who will win the upcoming Canyon Lake POA Board election. Only two candidates have placed themselves on the Canyon Lake POA Board ballot for the two vacancies.

Joe Kamashian and incumbent Jim Barringham will be the only two on the ballot for the two spots up for election in May. Why hold an election at all under these circumstances? Despite only two candidates for two openings, the election must go on.

When the number of director nominees is not more than the number of vacancies to be elected, only associations with 6,000 or more units may elect the nominees by acclamation. Canyon Lake has 4,800 units, and therefore cannot elect the nominees by acclamation and must follow through with an election. Write-ins on the ballots will be accepted.

The Annual Meeting of the Members and the Election of Directors will take place May 14 at the Canyon Lake Lodge. The polls open at 8:00 a.m., the meeting is called to order and polls close at approximately 9:00 a.m. May 8 is the recommended last day to mail the ballot. The ballots and supporting materials will be mailed to all members by April 14.

Both candidates submitted a résumé of sorts. Here is the content of each:

Professional Experience:

My Information Technology (IT) career began in 1968, with most of my work experience having been in Health Care. Some of the positions I have held are: System Analyst, Software Developer, Director of Information Technology, and Information Technology Consultant.

Canyon Lake:

My wife, Gyan, and I have been a Canyon Lake homeowner since May 2009. I was elected to the Board of Directors in May 2018 and will be completing my first term this coming May. Since my election to the Board of Directors in 2018, I have been the Board Representative to the Recreation Committee, Senior Center and Inter Dispute Resolution (IDR). Prior to my election to the Board of Directors, I have served as President of the Canyon Lake Tennis Club and was a member of the Canyon Lake Recreation Committee. We are active members of the Tennis Club, Pickleball Club, and Car Club.

Goals and Objectives as a Director:

My goal is to continue to represent all homeowners by listening to their needs and concerns. For the past two years I believe we as Board members have worked hard towards modernizing our community and will continue to work towards adding value to Canyon Lake.

As a fiscal conservative I do not believe in wasting the homeowners’ money. I do believe it is imperative to have proper reserve funds for our roads, buildings and amenities within our community. I will always be looking at ways to economize. I will do everything I possibly can to assure that Canyon Lake remains a great place to live for all our homeowners and their families. My goal is also to make sure Canyon Lake is well maintained and provides a wide range of amenities for all age groups. When facing tough decisions, I will always be for the betterment of the entire community.

As a father and grandfather, I am a firm believer in putting emphasis on our youth, providing activities and amenities within our community. Keeping our youth busy, active and safe are very important to the many families that live in Canyon Lake.

Getting information out and communicating with our homeowners is very important to me. I will continue promoting our website, as there is so much valuable information as to what is happening in our community. There are alerts and reminders of things that we might have forgotten about.

I am result-oriented and will value input from all homeowners in our community, and act on your behalf.

My Political Message:

Having served on our Board the past two years, I consider it a privilege to have been more involved in our community. If re-elected, I will continue working towards modernizing our community and adding property value to our homeowners.

I am asking for your support in this coming election.
