Story Time, Play Day are always fun at library

Play Day takes place on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Families of children of all abilities are invited to play, share a story and craft together.

Mentoring Tiny Humans co-hosts and provides activities and giveaways at every Play Day!

Toddler Story Time will meet on March 2 at 11:00 a.m. The program is led by volunteer Gretchen Blackford in the Kid’s Cove (Children’s Section) and includes a craft, a story and interactive songs. This program is a great opportunity for young children to practice their growing vocabulary and social skills.

Preschool Story Time will meet on Friday, Feb. 28 at 11:30 a.m. Led by librarian Miss Ginny, Preschool Story Time features live piano and interactive songs at each meeting.

Knitting and Crochet Crafters takes place today (Friday) from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Crafters of any skill level are welcome to join the fun and loaner tools are available for newcomers.

Tech Time is a program in which patrons age 18 or older of any skill level may come in to have their questions about the internet, tech or their devices answered by the Tech Tutor, an expert with over 15 years of experience in the field. Interested patrons should make a Saturday appointment at the Circulation Desk. Patrons are encouraged to bring in their devices (such as laptops, smart phones, or tablets) to their appointment.

Adult Book Club will meet on Monday at 4:00 p.m. The title of February’s pick is Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez.

The title of March’s pick is The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sara Pekkanen. The library provides discussion questions relating to the month’s pick and light refreshments at each Adult Book Club meeting. Newcomers are always welcome.

Roots 2 Grow Homework Help, in which teens earn volunteer credit by assisting younger students in their studies, is now by appointment. Grade-school-aged children needing help in certain subjects can make an appointment for individualized homework help by calling the library during normal business hours.

Boy Scout Troop #2011 is collecting e-waste at the library from now until March 6. The troop is accpeting small electronics to recycle, such as inkjet and laser printer cartridges, cell phones, tablets, eBook readers, GPS, PDAs, video game consoles, handheld video games, etc.

These items can be dropped off at the library during library hours and proceeds from the recycling will benefit Troop #2011’s summer camp transportation costs. Large electronics such as printers, computers and televisions cannot be accepted.

In N’ Out’s Cover to Cover Reading Program begins on March 7 and runs until April 18. Children between the ages of 4 and 12 are challenged to read five books in order to win a free In N Out hamburger or cheeseburger. For more information, visit the Circulation Desk.

Spring Book Sale begins March 7 and ends on March 14. During this time, patrons may purchase a bag of books of their choosing for $1 (regularly $3). All proceeds go toward library programs. Sales are made possible by the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library.

The library will be celebrating its 40th birthday on March 14 and all are invited to a celebration at the library that day.
