Biennial trip takes couples to Maui

Five couples from Canyon Lake joined other friends for a fun-filled trip to Kahana, Maui for seven nights.  The group enjoyed a six bedroom oceanfront stay at a residence called Kahana Nui Villa, halfway between the towns of Kaanapali and Kapalua on the island of Maui.

All five couples are members of the Canyon Lake Water Ski Club and Canyon Lake Tennis Club and they vacation together every two years, typically right after the new year.  Besides being active while at home, the group is also very active while on vacation.  Vacation activities included a private horseback riding tour around the Mendes Ranch and tennis fun at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch.  The men spent a day golfing at the Kaanapali Golf Course, while the women had massages and shopped at Whalers Village.

Other activities included bike riding and valiant efforts to paddleboard in the Hawaiian trade winds. The group would unwind at night with dinner at home, cooked each night by a different couple, preceded by ping pong and bocce ball tournaments in the backyard.  The villa was also equipped with a pool and jacuzzi that received a lot of use throughout the week.

Frank and Jeananne Woodman planned the trip a year ago with the hopes of being able to celebrate Frank’s retirement.  Frank did indeed retire at the end of 2019 from his 34-year career with Pankow Builders out of Pasadena. His company projects included high-rise buildings and parking structures in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hawaii and New York. Of course, there were numerous toasts, while in Maui, to honor him and his many career accomplishments.

Those making the Kahana, Maui trip were Fred and Loralyn Willis, Scott and Kim Larson, Jim Domann, Pat and Patti Rogers, Scott and Barb Walker and Frank and Jeananne Woodman. The group is looking forward to planning its next vacation together in 2022.
