Police Services

At 1.8 million dollars for the fiscal year 2019-2020, the contract with the county for police services is unsustainable.

According to the city, the cost has increased by 41 percent in the past six years for the same service, which includes one officer 24/7.

The city is actively looking for ways to provide the service at a cost that is sustainable and has recently joined Jurupa Valley, Lake Elsinore, Moreno Valley, San Jacinto, Temecula and Wildomar to contract with Citygate Associates for a study to assess the feasibility of forming a new police department under a Joint Powers Agreement.

Safety Inspections

It was brought to the city’s attention about a year ago that Riverside County/Cal Fire has not been conducting fire and life safety inspections at Canyon Lake businesses and other places that people gather in Canyon Lake, such as churches and restaurants. Therefore, the City of Canyon Lake has taken on this responsibly to ensure the safety of its residents and visitors. Enforcement staff has been trained and certified and inspections will begin in the next few weeks.
