Canyon Lakers brave frigid water for Polar Swim

Thirteen Canyon Lakers braved water temperatures in the 50s to participate in the Canyon Lake Triathlon and Fitness Club’s 3rd annual Polar Swim on New Year’s Day. Some of the participants suited up in wetsuits while others swam in just their bathing suits. Some swam to the first buoy and back, others took a quick plunge.

The club provided hot chocolate and awarded each participant with a Certificate of Participation.

“Fortunately, we had no rain and sunny skies,” said member Karin Cassidy. “Club member Doug Olsen, away on vacation at June Lake, participated virtually, reminding us that it could have been much more polar.”
The Triathlon and Fitness Club promotes healthy lifestyles through swimming, cycling, running and other cross-training activities.

In addition to triathlon events and group practices, the club hosts the community 5K/10K Fun Run, Turkey Trot, Tour de Canyon Lake bike ride and Paddle and Pedal Regatta. Annual membership is $30 for individuals and $40 per family.
