Letter: RFID Alert

Editor, The Friday Flyer

The POA plans to eliminate the benefits of the RFID lane for homeowners by allowing homeowners to issue three RFIDs to their guests—there goes our private community and security we pay for.

We have no clue as to who’s entering our gates or who their passengers are. Some people will sell their extra RFIDs to outsiders who are already overwhelming our lake and amenities.

The original benefit for homeowners with RFID was to give homeowners quick access over guests waiting to enter the gate. The new program would delete the special lane access exclusively for residents. Soon, it will be for every homeowner and three more for anyone the homeowner chooses—anyone their guest can fit in their car, and with no ID check.

I enjoy the security of a gated community that insulates us from much of the crime and homeless camps. Riverside mayor has taken a stand not to enforce laws for drugs and defecating in public. When RSO won’t respond, do you think our security will? No, they refer crime matters to law enforcement whose hands are tied.

Our CC&Rs state clearly that non-POA members must provide ID before entering. Our founding fathers knew the attraction, in addition to our lake and golf course, was a safe and secure community. Our board has tried twice to sneak through this unpopular program only to table it, as 99 percent of the attendees were against it. Crowds at fast food often are greeted with an iPad employee who gets info from people as they wait in line. It would work here too.

Ninety-nine percent of people I talked to are against open RFID. Don’t let the board implement this without a challenge, our security is more important. I bet most homeowners aren’t aware this is was happening behind closed doors.
