Sunset Beach welcomes flowered shirts, hula skirts

Hundreds of Canyon Lakers flocked to Sunset Beach on Monday evening for the 7th annual Maui Monday.

Sponsored by the POA, Maui Monday features food, limbo and hula hoop contests, music and performances on the beach by the professional Polynesian Entertainment Group.

The entertainers in bright costumes danced to the beat of drums and the fire dancers wowed the crowd with their flaming stunts.

The misting tent provided by the POA and ice cream offered by the Yacht Club provided a little relief from the high temperatures and humidity.

The POA handed out free leis and those who purchased a drink received a free commemorative cup. Kalua pork, teriyaki chicken and Aloha and Mahalo combos were among the items offered on the Hawaiian-accented menu.

As Canyon Lake says aloha to summer, it welcomes fall and all it has to offer.

Upcoming  events include the Kids Fishing Derby, Doobie Brothers Tribute Concert, Oktoberfest, Rocktoberfest, Mermaid Festival, Senior Center Holiday Boutique, JWC Holiday Boutique, Car Show, Halloween Carnival, Western Barbecue, Witches Tea, Pancake Breakfast, Neil Diamond Tribute concert, Billy Dean Concert, Veterans Day Celebration and Art Association Art Show.
