CL golfers celebrate 11th Pismo Golf Getaway

Canyon Lake golfers celebrated the 11th annual Pismo Golf Getaway in Pismo Beach Aug. 18 through Aug. 21. The group has been visiting the Oxford Suites Hotel and golfing at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course annually since 2009.

The event started when Joe Kamashian and the late Fran Pothier decided to plan a golf outing to get away from the hot August days in Canyon Lake. It has continued to be a popular event, drawing between 70 to more than 100 Canyon Lakers every year.

This year, 78 golfers escaped the Canyon Lake heat to Pismo Beach where they experienced overcast mornings and temperatures in the 70s.

The group arrived on Sunday and gathered in the hotel patio in the late afternoon where Canyon Laker Anne Norris organized a welcome reception.

Two days of challenging golf were played at Cypress Ridge Golf Course with a putting contest on Monday afternoon.

An awards banquet was held on Tuesday evening at the Cypress Ridge Pavilion where the group enjoyed a tri-tip dinner.

The final awards and recognitions of the evening went to those who excelled at golf for two days.

The winners are as follows:

Women’s 1st place: A Flight: Kathy Voss;  B Flight: Anne Norris; C Flight: Joanna Spiller.

Men’s 1st place: A Flight: Jesse Beecher; B Flight: Bruce Card; C Flight: Phil Coughlin.
