Regatta raises money for local foster kids

Approximately 150 people participated in the Canyon Lake Triathlon and Fitness Club’s annual Paddle and Pedal Regatta on Saturday.

Participants cruised on non-motorized vessels from Indian Beach to East Port and back. Three participants swam the course, supported by a paddler to ensure their safety.

A paddleboard race and barbecue followed the cruise. The winners of the youth race are 13-year-old Alex Kivrizis, 10-year-old Chase Christian and 10-year-old Aiden Kivrizis. In the adult race, medals went to Matt Kivrizis, Mark Yegsigian and Alex Kivrizis who participated in both the youth and adult races.

The Triathlon and Fitness Club would like to thank all of the participants who took part and bought raffle tickets and Tracey Vartanian, Impact Promotional Products, Vince’s Spaghetti and G-Force Fitness Center for donating the raffle prizes.

More than $600 was raised for Kamali’i Foster Family Agency’s Independent Living Program, which provides foster kids ages 15 to 20 with skills to emancipate out of the foster care system successfully.

The Triathlon and Fitness Club invites anyone interested in fitness to join the club. The club hosts frequent group running, biking and swimming workouts, as well as practice triathlons and clinics. Annual memberships are $30 for individuals and $40 for families.

The next club events are a sprint relay and brunch (for members only) on Sept. 7 and the second annual community Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving. For information, visit canyonlaketriathlonclub.com.
