Chris Papavero caught a 33-inch carp weighing 20 pounds while fishing off his dock in the East Bay on July 3. “Carp are fun to catch as they give you a great fight,” Chris said. “They are smart and it tried to break my line by running under the dock. It took about 10 minutes to bring it in.”

In addition to the carp, Chris caught two catfish weighing about two pounds each. He used bread for bait.

Chris returned the two catfish back to the lake and used the carp as fertilizer for his fruit trees. “Carp eat the eggs from the bass and other fish in the lake so it is best not to release them back into the lake,” he said.

Chris fishes a couple of times a month. His dog Tippy usually joins him.
