The Motels made their debut in Canyon Lake with a performance at the lodge on June 22. “This place is beautiful,” lead singer Martha Davis said to the audience. “I’ve lived in LA for years and I didn’t know about it. You’ve kept it a secret.”

The band performed 18 songs, two of which included their top 10 hits “Only the Lonely” and “Suddenly Last Summer.” They closed the show with “The Last Few Beautiful Days,” a song the band released last year.

The audience was treated to a Meet and Greet after the show.

Local musician Kenny Marquez opened the show. His vast musical career includes lead guitarist of the 80s/90s rock band Renegade, which is widely recognized as being the first Hispanic or “Chicano rock” band to gain acceptance in the United States.

Kenny’s 30-minute performance included renditions of “Lights” by Journey and Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.

The Motels concert is the third of four concerts in the POA’s 2019 Concerts at the Lodge series. The series will conclude on Nov. 2 with a performance by country music singer and songwriter Billy Dean. Dean’s studio albums have accounted for more than 20 hit singles on the Billboard country charts, including 11 Top Ten hits.

Tickets for the Billy Dean concert cost $24 for General Admission and $49 for VIP. Tickets can be purchased at the POA office and on the POA website at canyonlakepoa.com.
