CLMS cheer team gears up for new season

The Canyon Lake Middle School cheer team is gearing up for another great season. “The talent at tryouts was amazing and we are so excited to see what the new school year brings,” said coach Tammy Howard

This year’s team is made up of 30 talented 6th, 7th and 8th graders. The team is currently on summer vacation but will begin a rigorous summer schedule on July 15 with practices, summer cheer camp and tumbling camp.

“We use the summer practice time to condition, learn cheers, learn a home dance routine, review camp material, stunt, tumble, prepare for Back to School Night and assemblies and bond as a team,” said Howard.

“We had tremendous growth last year in our technique and stunting abilities and our goal this year is to surpass that level. As coaches, we want to see our team excel in cheer skills, as well as in leadership and personal growth.”

The team will be setting goals over the summer to increase spirit at CLMS and to progress in cheer skills and technique. The competition team will be chosen over summer from the team of 30 girls. Competitions begin in November.

The Canyon Lake residents who made the team this year include Allyson Villarreal, Amara Noon, Ava Jaffe, Bailey Graham, Brynn Baine, Callie Reeves, Carisa Ronchetti, Eliana Ruyle, Emma Cole, Hailey Berry, Kaitlyn Usary, captain Kolena Apana, McKenzie Cassara, Natasha Warner, Riley Bergherm, Ryann Boshard, Ryleigh Cooley, Sawyer Lanouette, Shae Inchcliff, Stefani Uribe, captain Summer Scott and Taylor Tello.
