Couple celebrates 65th anniversary

Longtime Canyon Lake residents Phyllis and James Lippen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 19.

The couple met in high school in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Jim played all sports and Phyllis was head cheerleader her junior and senior years.

After graduation, Jim served in the Marine Corps while Phyllis earned a degree at Green Mountain College, a private liberal arts college in Poultney, Vermont. Following his time in Korea, Jim worked as an excavation contractor. With Phyllis’ loving support, they ran a successful business and raised five children.

Soon after visiting Canyon Lake in 1969, the couple purchased a lot on the water where they camped for six years prior to building the home they still enjoy today.

The Lippen’s worked hard to live an adventurous life, from race cars to safaris in Africa to purchasing their own little piece of paradise in Canyon Lake. Their family has blossomed and now includes 27 great-grandchildren.
