Mary Burns wins Championship Tournament

The Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club held its 46th annual Club Championship Tournament on Mar. 9, 21 and 26. The field consisted of 28 players divided into three flights.

Mary Burns is the Overall Gross winner and was toasted with champagne by her competitors. She received flowers and will have her name engraved on the perpetual club championship trophy. Mary won with a score of 274, winning by 11 strokes. Flight winners are as follows:

A Flight:

Marilyn Bridges, KK Beecher, Anita Fairfield and Gerry Meeks.

B Flight:

Lorrie Sjomeling, Kathy Voss, Valerie Montgomery and Ura Furry.

C Flight:

Linda Hudson, Barbara Spraul, Kay Arth and Linda Helmer.

The club congratulates each of the winners and all the members who participated in this major event. The club thanks Linda Hudson and Linda Helmer for the table decorations, Pat Kemball and the Pro Shop staff for their assistance with this tournament and the country club staff for the tasty lunch.

The club will be hosting its two-day Senior Tournament for women ages 50 and older on Apr. 23 and 30 at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $40 and includes lunch on the second day. For an extra $5, players ages 75 and older can play in the Super-Senior Tournament. Signups are taken at the Golf Pro Shop. The registration deadline is Apr. 16. The Women’s Golf Club is a member of the Southern California Golf Association. The club meets on Tuesdays in the Magnolia Room at the country club between 7 and 7:30 a.m. to tee off at 8 a.m. for 18 holes of golf.

The club’s mission is promoted through camaraderie, social events, recognition and tournaments throughout the year. Women in the community are invited to participate in all the club has to offer.
