Animal shelter offers free spay, neuter vouchers

Animal Friends of the Valleys is offering free spay and neuter vouchers in celebration of World Spay Day. The vouchers will be distributed on Feb. 26 at AFV at 33751 Mission Trail, Wildomar. Distribution starts at 8 a.m. and will continue while supplies last.

Vouchers are available for personal pets to residents of Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Murrieta, Temecula, Wildomar and unincorporated areas of Riverside County that AFV serves. Proof residency is required.

Each voucher covers up to $100 for dogs and $50 for cats. Limit two per household.

Vouchers are only valid at AFV’s clinic located at 29001 Bastron Ave., Lake Elsinore. The clinic is open seven days a week. To make an appointment, call 951-674-SPAY.

World Spay Day is an annual campaign of the Humane Society of the United States, Humane Society International and the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association. Celebrated annually on the last Tuesday in February, World Spay Day shines a spotlight on the power of affordable, accessible spay and neuter to save the lives of companion animals, community (feral and stray) cats and street dogs who might otherwise be put down in shelters or killed on the street.

More than 2.7 million healthy, adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters annually, according to the Humane Society of the United States. Spay/neuter is the only permanent, 100 percent effective method of birth control for dogs and cats.
