P.E.O Scholarships

P.E.O., a philanthropic organization devoted to the educational advancement of women through scholarships, grants, awards and loans, is offering scholarship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate California women studying in a variety of fields including but not limited to health care, education, music, fine arts and the legal profession.

Application forms and guidelines are available online at peocalifornia.org. Completed packets are due no later than Feb. 1, 2019. The scholarships will be awarded for the fall 2019 school year. For additional Information, contact Dee Zasio at 951-244-0123.

Quilt Show

The Valley Quilters Guild 38th annual Quilt Show will be held on Feb. 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Valley-Wide Recreation Center, 901 West Esplanade, San Jacinto.

This event features more than 100 quilts on display, vendors, drawings, a boutique and more. Admission is $10. For more information, visit valleyquilters.org.

Free Garden Workshop

Join Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District and Master Gardeners on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for a free workshop as they explore preparing gardens for spring.

Temecula Rod Run

The Temecula Rod Run kicks off on Mar. 1 with a Friday night cruise from 5 to 8 p.m. in Old Town Temecula. The fun continues the next day with the Show and Shine Car Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring more than 600 vehicles on display, music, entertainment, food and vendors. Bereavement Support

A 13-week session of the Bereavement Support Group started on Jan. 14. Sessions are held on Mondays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Building A at Canyon Lake Community Church.

Evening sessions are held on Mondays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Grief Share provides helpful information on grief-related topics. To register, contact Pastor Pete Van Dyke at 951-244-1877, ext. 204.

Caregivers Connection

On Jan. 28, Caregivers Connection will welcome Robin Macsinka as a guest speaker.

Robin was a caregiver for her father for eight years as he suffered from Alzheimer’s. She will be offering insights into caring for loved ones with long term memory and physical issues related to this disease.

Caregivers Connection is an outreach for those caring for a loved one with dementia, Alzheimer’s and other diseases of the aging. Twice a month, on the first and third Mondays, JoAnn Wickerath and Bev Haney lead a group with informational talks, videos and fellowship.

This is a great opportunity to speak with other caregivers and share information, tips and experiences.

Meetings are held at Canyon Lake Community Church in Building C. Attendees are asked to refrain from using perfume at the meetings as there are those who are allergic to the chemicals in perfume. For more information, contact Jo Ann Wickerath at 951-679-7736 or Bev Haney at 951-764-1730.

Lioness Bingo Fundraiser

Sponsored by the Canyon Lake Lioness Club, bingo is held at the Canyon Lake Senior Center on the first and third Sunday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. Due to State Law, players must be 18 or older to play.

Admission is $10 per six-sheet set; special games are available for $1 each. Those wishing to attend from outside the community should call Nancy Coughlin at 951-805-0543 or Joanna Spiller at 951-244-1553 for gate entrance.

Chronic Illness Support

The Chronic Illness Support Group meets on the first Monday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Canyon Lake Senior Center. All ages are welcome to attend.

The group provides the opportunity to share and receive support from others who have chronic conditions, whether from illness or physical issues.

Menifee Historical Museum

The Menifee Valley Historial Museum contains displays about Canyon Lake history, provided by Canyon Lake pioneers, Don and Elinor Martin, who sometimes serve as docents.

Expressive Art Class

Michelle’s Place, a breast cancer resource center serving Canyon Lake and surrounding area, hosts a free Expressive Art Class every other Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The class uses art as a form of therapy and self-exploration. Sessions help to practice creativity while opening the door to calming strategies and awareness techniques.

Participants gain a better insight of themselves through sharing feelings and exploring a host of topics with group dialogue and discussion.

The class is part art, part relaxing, part “therapy,” part discussion and a positive diversion for anyone. No reservations, fees or art experience required.

Genealogy Research

The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society (LEGS) business and program meetings are held monthly on the second Thursday of each month, except July and August, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lakeland Village Community Center, 16275 Grand Ave., Lake Elsinore.

The Canyon Lake Famers Market operates every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upper section of the Towne Center parking lot.

Free Workshop

CLAWS Bunco

Canyon Lake women are invited to attend the Canyon Lake Association of Women (CLAWS) group bunco on the second Wednesday of the month at 3 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the country club. Sewing, Quilting Group

Breast Cancer Resources

Bosom Buddies is a breast cancer support group in Canyon Lake led by Janelle Basham and Kimberly Slingerland. The pair mentor, educate and support newly diagnosed breast cancer patients during their journey. For more information, visit clbosombuddies.com.

Michelle’s Place, 27645 Jefferson Ave., Ste. 117, Temecula, is a breast cancer resource center serving Canyon Lake and surrounding areas. The center’s mission is to provide emotional and educational support to those touched with breast cancer and facilitate breast health care services. Women’s Circles

Women’s Circles are small groups of women who meet once a month in each other’s homes or in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church. They pray and support missionaries and pray for and encourage one another. Being a member of a Women’s Circle provides an opportunity for small group fellowship. Faith Circle meets the third Monday at 7 p.m.; Julia Circle meets the second Monday at 10:30 a.m.; Priscilla Circle meets the first Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.; Sonshine Circle meets the third Monday at 9:30 a.m.; Sunset Circle meets the second Sunday at 5:30 p.m.; Love Circle meets the second Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. For more information about the Women’s Circles, contact Circle Coordinator Phyllis Duncan at 951-674-4436.

Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District and the Inland Empire Waterkeepers are hosting a free Irrigation 101 Workshop on Saturday, May 4, 10 to 11:30 a.m. at EVMWD headquarters at 31315 Chaney St., Lake Elsinore.
