Canyon Lake Kids Club celebrates 7th anniversary

The Canyon Lake Kids Club celebrated its 7th year anniversary this month. Nickey Frakes and Dayna Cascario are two of the five original grandmothers who formed the club after the YMCA canceled its Kids Club due to lack of funding. Thirty children and parents attended the first club meeting on Oct. 4, 2011.

Nickey and Dayna retired in 2017. Although the two grandmothers enjoyed their time running the club, they felt it was time to retire since Nickey’s grandchildren were grown and Dayna’s grandchildren had recently graduated from the club and enrolled in school.

The club’s current leaders are Christie Hall, Sarah Card, Rocio Triolo and Spenser Salvino.

The Kids Club is a program in which young children and their parents or grandparents enjoy a morning of crafts, music, exercise, games, sports and a snack for just $2 per session. Those who purchase a 10-class punch card receive two classes free. Punch cards can be purchased in class. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Pool View Room at the lodge.
