Canyon Lakers ring in 2018 with Polar Swim

Twenty-five people kicked off 2018 with a Polar Swim at Sunset Beach on New Year’s Day. The event was hosted by the Canyon Lake Triathlon and Fitness Club.

Some of the participants opted to brave the chilly water with a quick dip in their bathing suits while others, like Craig Graham and organizer George Hicks, wore wetsuits and swam all the way to the lighthouse and back.

“I wore my wetsuit and neoprene cap but it was still a bit heart-stopping,” said, participant Karin Cassidy. “I feel refreshed and ready to start the new year”

Each participant received a Certificate of Participate. Participants warmed up with complimentary hot chocolate after their swim.

The club’ s next event is the Canyon Lake 5K/10K Fun Run on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the lodge parking lot. Check-in is 7:15 to 7:30 a.m. Announcements regarding the course are at 7:40 a.m. The run will begin promptly at 8 a.m. Participants may choose to walk/run the flat 5K course or the rolling hills 10K course.

This event is open to the community. Club membership is not required to participate.
