Eagle Scout donates new flagpole to Happy Camp

A Flag Raising Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony was held at Happy Camp on Sunday for the new flagpole recently installed. The flagpole is courtesy of 14-year-old Eagle Scout Jake Hosking, who raised the funds to pay for it by recycling and seeking donations.

Local scouts, along with Canyon Lake Mayor Vicki Warren and former Mayor Randy Bonner, attended Sunday’s ceremony.

Jake, a Canyon Lake resident, dedicated the new flagpole to all past, present and future Eagle Scouts in Canyon Lake and Den Leader Mark Heider to thank them for their service to the community.

Jake began as a first grade Tiger in Canyon Lake Cub Scout Pack 346 and rose among the ranks, graduating to Boy Scout Troop 444 in Menifee. Mark Heider, an Eagle Scout himself, was a dedicated and beloved den leader who positively impacted the Cub Scouts for almost a decade. When Mark passed away a few years ago, Jake knew he wanted to include him in honoring Eagle Scouts in Canyon Lake.

A Campership Scholarship fund was created in Mark Heider’s name to benefit the Cub Scouts of Pack 346, and donations continue to be made for this purpose. Jake has donated $100 of his own money to the fund. To make a donation to the fund, contact Susan Thomas at cubscout346mom@gmail.com.

Jake said he is deeply grateful for all who have helped him with the project.
