Reel in the fun at Kids Fishing Derby Sept. 16

The 31st annual Kids Fishing Derby, for ages five to 15, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Holiday Harbor Park. This free event is sponsored by the Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club. Traditionally, this event draws several hundred children.

Parents must register and sign a consent form in order for their child to participate in the Fishing Derby. Registration is from 6 to 8 a.m. Worms will be handed out at registration while supplies last.

Kids can fish anywhere on the lake from the time they register until 11 a.m. Fish weigh-in is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Bassmasters will serve lunch at 12 p.m. The lunch is complimentary and consists of hot dogs, chips, water, soda and snow cones.

Awards will be handed out at 1 p.m. Trophies are awarded in different age groups (five to seven, eight to 11 and 12 to 15) plus one for “Big Fish” in each species and “Big Fish” for one boy and one girl.

As part of this annual event, each child will receive one ticket for a separate prize drawing that includes bicycles, fishing poles and other toys. “Every child who participates will go home with a prize,” said Bassmasters Club Treasurer Jude Donahue. Tickets will be sold for a special opportunity drawing for a large Aqua Lilly Pad.
