Torkelsons travel to Canada to visit son

Jill, David and Andrew Torkelson tour a Columbian naval school ship in North Vancouver.

Jill and David Torkelson traveled to British Columbia, Canada, to visit their son Andrew who resides just outside Vancouver in Burnaby.

Andrew attended Simon Fraser University on a partial football scholarship.

Upon graduating in October of 2016, he took a marketing job in Vancouver with a medical supply company. Andrew said he hopes to return to southern California within a few years.

While in British Columbia Andrew and his native Canadian girlfriend Hannah Amor introduced David and Jill to some of Vancouver’s diverse dining. One evening they lounged on couches while eating dinner at an Afghan restaurant and were treated to belly dancing.

On another evening they cooked their own meal on a table-side grill at a Japanese restaurant. They also experienced poutine, a Canadian favorite that consists of french fries, cheese curds and gravy. “I was surprised how good it tastes,” said Jill.

David and Jill, with The Friday Flyer in tow, also enjoyed a few days of sightseeing. They biked around Stanley Park in Vancouver, explored the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park in North Vancouver and ziplined in Whistler, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
