Caregivers Connection

A unique and positive guide to supporting family members with dementia will be featured when the Caregivers Connection group meets next Monday, February 8. “The Senior Gems” is a family-centered video that provides an overview of the impact of dementia and Alzeimer’s, and offers techniques that will make a difference in the various stages of these diseases. The video features Teepa Snow, an occupational therapist and dementia expert with more than 30 years of clinical experience in the field of geriatrics and dementia, who offers techniques to provide effective care. Men and women who provide care for their husbands, wives or parents for illnesses such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, stroke, heart issues or Parkinson’s are invited to attend Caregivers Connection, a support group that meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, from 10 a.m. to noon in room 6 of the gym at Canyon Lake Community Church. Bereavement Support

A 13-week bereavement support group will begin meeting this month in the Canyon Lake Community Church Chapel, led by Pastor Pete Van Dyke. On Mondays, beginning February 22, meetings will be held at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. To register, call the church office at 951-244-1877.

Long Run Concert Sold Out

Tickets for the Eagles Tribute Concert by The Long Run, scheduled for March 19 at the Lodge, are sold out.

Family Matters Swapmeet

The 2nd annual Family Matters Club Swapmeet will be held May 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at East Port Park. Organizers have announced that parking spaces on the blacktop will be available for $15; vendors can reserve booth space on the lawn for $35. The Family Matters Club will be selling hot dogs, chips, snack food and beverages to keep everyone powered up for their shopping/selling.

Love to Sing?

The Canyon Lake Choraleers are getting ready for their spring concert and welcome new members. Directed by Robbin Bouslog, the group practices Monday nights, 5 to 7 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room/Council Chamber. The spring concert will be on May 22, at 3 p.m. at the Lodge, and will feature Broadway show tunes.

Toastmasters Meet Weekly

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce Toastmasters Club meets every Tuesday, 12:05 to 1:05 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room/Council Chamber. The group works on public speaking and leadership skills. For more information, contact Maureen Smith at 951-566-7185.

Itty Bitty T-Ball

Boys and girls, ages 2 to 5, are welcome to sign up for seven weeks of Itty Bitty T-Ball at Temescal Canyon High School. Opening day is February 21. Games are played on Sundays at 10 and 11 a.m. Players receive MLB-style shirt and cap, individual and team photos, and participation medals.

Sewing, Quilting Group

Canyon Lakers are invited to the Senior Center for sewing and quilting every Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a project and sewing machine or just come visit and check it out. For more information, call Terri Ireland at 951-246-2571.

Breast Cancer Resources

Bosom Buddies is a breast cancer support group in Canyon Lake led by Janelle Basham and Kimberly Slingerland. They mentor, educate and support newly diagnosed breast cancer patients during their breast cancer journey. Visit www.CLBosomBuddies.com and Canyon Lake Bosom Buddies Facebook page.

Michelle’s Place is a breast cancer resource center serving this area, located at 27645 Jefferson Ave., Ste. 117, in Temecula. The center’s mission is to provide emotional and educational support to those touched with breast cancer and facilitate breast health care services. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Genealogy Research

The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society (LEGS) meets the second Thursday of each month, at 3 p.m., at the Mission Trail Community Library, 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar.

Farmers Market

The Farmers Market operates every Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the upper section of the Towne Center parking lot. It features fresh produce from local farmers and fresh flowers from area growers as well as handcrafted items, vendor merchandise and freshly prepared food. It’s a good place to pick up fresh food for Sunday meals and gifts from local vendors.

Bingo at the Senior Center

The Lioness Club hosts Bingo every first and third Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Senior Center. Games are open to all members of the community and are $20 for a 12-sheet set and $10 for a six-sheet set.

Funds raised by bingo are contributed to Lions’ projects for the sight-impaired and the needy of the area.

Host Families Sought

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs, in cooperation with area high schools, is looking for local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 18 from a variety of countries: Norway, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Japan, to name a few.

ASSE students are enthusiastic and excited to experience American culture while they practice their English. They also love to share their own culture and language with their host families.

The exchange students have pocket money for personal expenses and full health, accident and liability insurance. ASSE students are selected based on academics and personality, and host families can choose their student from a wide variety of backgrounds, countries and personal interests.

Clothing Wanted

A couple in Canyon Lake regularly makes deliveries of food and clothing to the Riverside City Mission, where the needs of the hungry and homeless are continuous. Donations can be dropped off at the Coldwell Banker office in the Towne Center, 31620 Railroad Canyon Rd.

Lock Vehicles

Canyon Lake Community Patrol reminds residents to double-check the doors and windows in their vehicles each evening and be sure alarm systems are activated. Records show most thefts from vehicles in Canyon Lake occur because doors were left unlocked or windows left open. They also say residents shouldn’t leave items of value in front yards or driveways.

Open cars and valuables left outside can lead to “crimes of opportunity” that can be easily prevented. If a crime is in progress, call 9-1-1 immediately. Then call Community Patrol.

Call Community Patrol at 951-244-5950 any time there is a suspicious-looking person.

MOMS Next

Mothers of school aged kids are invited to MOMS Next, a ministry of MOPS International. It meets every second and fourth Tuesday, 9 to 11 a.m., at Can­yon Lake Community Church.
