CLPOA Board Meeting

The next regular session meeting of the POA Board of Directors will be held Tuesday, January 5, at 7 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room. This meeting is for POA members only. It is streamed live at canyonlakepoa.com and televised at Time Warner Channel 29 and Verizon Channel 39. The agenda can be viewed on the website.

City Council Meeting

The next meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council will be held Wednesday, January 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber. This meeting is open to the public. It is televised at Time Warner Channel 29 and Verizon Channel 39. The agenda can be viewed at cityofcanyonlake.org.

The Administration and Finance Committee meeting is at 8 a.m. on January 5; the Public Safety Committee meeting is at 9:30 a.m. on January 5; the Fire Department Start-up Committee is on January 14, at 6 p.m. All committees meet in the City Council Chamber.

Arrest report update

Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Station Sgt. Ralph Rico provided the following report of arrests that occurred in the City of Canyon Lake from November 16 to December 27, 2015. Residents are reminded these reports represent arrests of suspects and not convictions of a crime.

November 17, 2015 – Spousal Abuse – 23600 block of Vista Way, Canyon Lake – CN-153210004 – 11:23 a.m. – Rafael Fragoso Robles, 35, was arrested for domestic battery.

November 26, 2015 – Public Intoxication – 31500 block of Railroad Canyon Rd., Canyon Lake – CN-153300001 – 00:31 a.m. – Cheyne Michael               McClellan, 26, was arrested for public intoxication.

November 29, 2015 – DUI – Canyon Lake Dr. and Railroad Canyon Rd., Canyon Lake – CN-153330004 – 11:15 a.m. – Adam Michael Nordskog, 30, was arrested for driving under the influence.

December 19, 2015 – Warrant Service – Newport Rd. and Murphy Ranch, Canyon Lake – CN-153530003 – 5:34 p.m. – Tara Michelle Blok, 37, was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant.

December 22, 2015 – False Identification – Railroad Canyon Rd. and Canyon Lake Dr. South, Canyon Lake – CN-153560010 – 9:58 p.m. – Dennis Michael Busch, 35, was arrested for false identification to a peace officer.

December 27, 2015 – Residential Burglary – Village Way and Canyon Lake Dr. South, Canyon Lake – CN-153610009 – 5:00 p.m. – Kevin Ross Scott, 25, was arrested for residential burglary.

Pickleball Instruction

Sewing, Quilting Group

Canyon Lakers are invited to the Senior Center for sewing and quilting every Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The group starts back up Wednesday, January 6. Bring a project and sewing machine or just come visit and check it out.

A free 3-hour CE class (BRN approval no. CEP 12623) providing Psychological First Aid after a Disaster and PTSD will be held Saturday, January 30, 9 a.m. to noon, in the City Multi-purpose Room/Council Chamber. It will be taught by Bob Ireland, MD, and Mary Craton, RN. Content includes basic pathology of PSTD and philosophy of psychological first aid in the aftermath of a disaster. Participants will visit the Canyon Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee’s Casualty Collection Point at East Port to review procedures, supplies and equipment.

CLLL Spring Registration

Canyon Lake Little League is taking online signups at www.clllca.com. The cost for players will vary from $120 to $160 based on division. Player registration includes a hat, shirt, belt, socks and a rewarding season of baseball. The league is always looking for good managers, coaches, assistant coaches, team reps and board members. Itty Bitty T-Ball

Boys and girls, ages 2 to 5, are welcome to sign up for seven weeks of Itty Bitty T-Ball at Temescal Canyon High School. Opening day is February 21. Games are played on Sundays at 12 and 1 p.m.. Players receive MLB-style shirt and cap, individual and team photos, and participation medals.

Toastmasters

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce Toastmasters Club meets every Tuesday, 12:05 to 1:05 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room/Council Chamber. The group works on public speaking and leadership skills. For more information, contact Maureen Smith at 951-566-7185.

Genealogy Research

The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society (LEGS) meets the second Thursday of each month, at 3 p.m., at the Mission Trail Community Library, 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar. The next meeting is January 14. For more information, contact Yoly Jimenez at 951-764-1932 or yolyatlegs@gmail.com.

Farmers Market

The Farmers Market operates every Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the upper section of the Towne Center parking lot. It features fresh produce from local farmers and fresh flowers from area growers as well as handcrafted items, vendor merchandise and freshly prepared food. It’s a good place to pick up fresh food for holiday meals and gifts from local vendors.

Bingo at the Senior Center

The Lioness Club hosts Bingo every first and third Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Senior Center. Games are open to all members of the community and are $20 for a 12-sheet set and $10 for a six-sheet set. Funds raised by bingo are contributed to Lions’ projects for the sight-impaired and the needy of the area.

PEO Scholarships

The Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) is devoted to the educational advancement of women through scholarships, grants, awards and loans. P.E.O. scholarship opportunities are now available for undergraduate and graduate California women studying in a variety of fields. These scholarships will be awarded for the fall 2016 school year. Application forms are available online through January 10, 2016. Completed packets are due no later than February 1, 2016.

Caregivers Connection

Men and women who provide care for their husbands, wives or parents for illnesses such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, stroke, heart issues or Parkinson’s are invited to attend Caregivers Connection.

Host Families Sought

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs, in cooperation with area high schools, is looking for local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 18 from a variety of countries: Norway, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Japan, to name a few.

ASSE students are enthusiastic and excited to experience American culture while they practice their English. They also love to share their own culture and language with their host families.

The exchange students have pocket money for personal expenses and full health, accident and liability insurance. ASSE students are selected based on academics and personality, and host families can choose their student from a wide variety of backgrounds, countries and personal interests.

Breast Cancer Resources

Michelle’s Place is a breast cancer resource center serving this area, located at 27645 Jefferson Ave., Ste. 117, in Temecula. The center’s mission is to provide emotional and educational support to those touched with breast cancer and facilitate breast health care services. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Learn about available services and resources at michellesplace.org or 951-699-5455.

Clothing Wanted

A couple in Canyon Lake regularly makes deliveries of food and clothing to the Riverside City Mission, where the needs of the hungry and homeless are continuous. Donations can be dropped off at the Coldwell Banker office in the Towne Center, 31620 Railroad Canyon Rd.

Lock Vehicles

Canyon Lake Community Patrol reminds residents to double-check the doors and windows in their vehicles each evening and be sure alarm systems are activated. Records show most thefts from vehicles in Canyon Lake occur because doors were left unlocked or windows left open. They also say residents shouldn’t leave items of value in front yards or driveways.

Open cars and valuables left outside can lead to “crimes of opportunity” that can be easily prevented. If a crime is in progress, call 9-1-1 immediately. Then call Community Patrol.

Call Community Patrol at 951-244-5950 any time there is a suspicious-looking person.

MOMS Next

Mothers of school aged kids are invited to MOMS Next, a ministry of MOPS International. It meets every second and fourth Tuesday, 9 to 11 a.m., at Canyon Lake Community Church.
