Cub Scout Pack 346 has had a busy start to the 2015-2016 scouting year. According to spokesperson Susan Gamble, the Pack welcomed 11 new scouts and created two new dens this year. The first Pack 346 meeting in August introduced the new and returning scouts to “Outdoor Ethics” and the “Six Cub Scout Essentials” while helping the boys develop skills needed to participate in campouts during the year.

Awards the scouts earned during the summer at Day Camp and Camp Wiley were awarded, and the pack’s “National Summertime Activity Award” was presented. This meeting was followed by the annual popcorn fundraising booths.

“Our scouts withstood some hot days to sell popcorn to shoppers at the Canyon Hills Stater Bros,” says Susan. “Many Canyon Lake residents were among our supporters. We appreciate Stater Bros for the ability to sell in our community and all those who support us through buying popcorn.”

The boys raised more than $500 in donations for popcorn for the military and have sent out care packages to local military units and others deployed abroad.

The first campout took place at Happy Camp in Canyon Lake. According to Susan, the boys enjoyed swimming, fishing, games and putting on skits at the “no fire campfire.” Bear and Webelos Scouts had the opportunity to take over the kitchen duties by planning and shopping for a meal and then cooking and cleaning up at camp.

The Webelos I Scouts put on an obstacle course for all the scouts and siblings in attendance. Some of the other non-scouting kids at Happy Camp came over to join in the fun. The scouts ended the campout with the awards, and many new scouts received their Bobcat Rank (the first step rank all boys must complete in Cub Scouts).

The scouts who completed Bobcat were Anthony Bergstrom, Logan Caglia, Nathan Cevera, Brody Heider, Vance Hewitt, Mason Lavin, Baron Sidwell, Wyatt Sidwell and Jame Woodward. In addition, Bladen Hartley was acknowledged with a special leadership patch for leading the flag salute at Tuscany Hills Friday Flag at the end of August.

Following the awards presentation, the annual Rain Gutter Regatta was held and den and pack level awards were presented.

Pack 346 is the Canyon Lake/Canyon Hills/Tuscany Hills Cub Scout Pack for boys in grades 1 to 5. For more information on Pack 346, contact socalpack346@gmail.com or call 951-363-3346. New scouts are welcomed throughout the year.
