Letter: Fire Records

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

I have followed Canyon Lake Fire Station 60’s call-out records provided by The Friday Flyer since November 2014. They averaged one call-out a day (30-day month) with the exception of May, when they had 23 to 26 call-outs.

The annual cost of our fire protection was over $1,660,000 per year, or over $4,500 per day. I further read, if we use fire stations outside Canyon Lake, the city providing service would charge us $2,000 per call-out. For the past seven months, we averaged one call-out per day. That would cost $730,000 per year – a savings of $930,000 per year.

I also noted 85 percent of call-outs was for medical. I do not think we had a house or business fire during the past seven months. I hope our proposed City-controlled fire department will look at this history and make the protection affordable.
