Art Association awards high school artists

The Canyon Lake Art Association held its Student Scholarship Art Awards event on May 18 at the Senior Center. The four scholarship winners saw their entries celebrated in true art gallery style. The competition was open to student artists at all area high schools.

Taking first place was Roxana Recinos of Paloma Valley High School, with her screen print, “I’m Blue,” featuring Star Trek’s iconic Spock.

Second place went to Kaellie Perrault of Lakeside High School, with an untitled surrealistic acrylic painting.

Taking 3rd place was Amy Flores of Paloma Valley High School, with her acrylic pop art, “If I Can’t Be Beautiful I’d Rather Just Die.”

Honorable Mention went to Hasada Castro of Paloma Valley High School. His photo realistic “Chespirito” also earned CLAA’s “People’s Choice Award.”

According to spokesperson Kristene Robertson, this will be an annual competition in which Canyon Lake’s teen artists are encouraged to participate through their high schools.
