Golf Course

Canyon Lake Golf Course – public or private?

Why is it that 90 percent of the people in Canyon Lake do not have any say regarding our Golf Course? Is the Board not supposed to do what is in the best interest of all of our members? Why are they allowing less than 10 percent to tell the 90 percent what they are going to do with the Golf Course? Why are they passing along the majority of the cost of operating the Golf Course to the 90 percent? Why are we spending $1,000 a day to operate the Country Club?

The golfers (the 10 percent) are currently paying about one-third of the price of Menifee Lakes. In 1987 33 percent of revenue came from outside play. The Green Committee in 1987 stated they would increase the cost of the Green Fees to offset any increase in the cost of running the Golf Course.

The golfers, since 1987, via the Finance Committee and Board, simply passed on the increases to operate the Golf Course to the 4,800 homeowners instead.

We are between 33-36,000 rounds of golf per year. A round of golf costs between $19 and $39 per round, depending on the time of day. Pat agrees that we would increase to 48,000 rounds. That is an additional 12,000 rounds x $19 = $228,000; or 12,000 rounds x $29 = $336,000; or 12,000 rounds x $39 = $468,000. In reality, it will average out to $29 per round, which could tentatively earn the CLPOA an extra $336,000.

This will require an aggressive advertising campaign to our surrounding communities. This is worth trying as the alternative is to drastically increase the cost of golf. The premise is simple; they should plan on selling all the available tee times not used by our members.

Fashion Show

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club Fashion Show was a huge success!  I want to thank everyone for their participation. It was really an extravaganza.

A very special and heart-felt thank you goes to Terri Ireland and Lyne Hall for the planning and organizing of this fundraising event.

It takes a lot of time, creativity, hard work and great committee members (too many to mention individually in this letter, but you know who you are and so do I) to put on this Fashion Show. A fabulous job was done by Terri and Lyne and their committee members, those who hosted the pre-parties,  as well as the models.

Special recognition goes out to Rose Marie Hand for her creative “commentary.” The decorations were amazing and the printed material was so creative. Thank you too to our member, Aprile of Aprile De Anne Entertainment. The entertainment was spectacular.

Thank you to the Lodge for the great lunch and to the maintenance for their help in setting up. Also I want to express special gratitude to the Canyon Lake Pro Shop, Me Boutique, Lemoncellos, Max and Me, and Coeur d’Alene for providing the fashions.

Thank you to the businesses and individuals who donated to the advertising, to the silent auction and to the door prizes. Thank you to the members of the Woman’s Club who donated to the theme baskets. We couldn’t do it without you!

A special thank you goes out to The Friday Flyer for the wonderful coverage of our events as well as to Bert Barbay and Bob Ireland for their photography.

To all of the members of the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club and to those in the community who participated in the Fashion show, a very, very special thank you!

Volunteers Have Heart

The Woman’s Club “Swinging Sixties” Fashion Show turned out to be a huge success.

The big crowd of women in their various ‘60s fashion outfits were anxious to find a treasure in the club’s silent auction, theme basket drawing and the grand prize drawing of $2,500. The grand prize went to a lady whose husband just passed away. (God is good, having cheered her up with this unexpected bounty!)

I just joined the club last year, but I am loving it as I have wide experience volunteering in non-profit world organizations like the Rotary Club and the Lions Club whose humanitarian projects are much broader in scope than the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club.

Having served as “a bridge of communication” between the Rotary Club in Manila and that of Japan, I can say with pride that I was awarded twice “Ambassador of Goodwill” for actively interacting with them in various projects the two clubs initiated that benefited the community of Navotas, Manila when two X-ray machines were donated to them by their sister club in Japan.

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club Fashion Show has evolved into a major event, making it the club’s biggest fundraiser. I am glad that I can be a part of this unique club where I can contribute my know-how and experiences in the food and service industry. They share their creativity, skill and talent, despite being occupied with their own home responsibilities, work, etc. I could have joined other leisure clubs; but for me, I want to be productive and I chose the right one.

Again, this year’s Fashion Show was a success, complying with what the club stands for: “United We Could Do It All!” Let me say to all Canyon Lake women, “Volunteers don’t necessarily have the time; they just have the heart!”

Spaghetti Dinner

The Canyon Lake Senior Center would like to extend a huge thank you to the Family Matters Club for the wonderful spaghetti dinner that they served this past Sunday night for free!

Sosy Robinson and Shawna Bowen and several other members showed up with pans and food to feed all who arrived. There were about 50 lucky seniors who attended to enjoy the evening of good food and good friends. This is the type of event that makes Canyon Lake a “Bit of Paradise!”
