Deja vu for ‘long-suffering’ Longhorn residents

Longhorn Dr. residents have had their share of road woes over the years. And guess what? They’re once again watching equipment dig into their street. In its latest newsletter, the POA announced that Arizona Pipeline Company is upgrading the underground Southern California Edison system along Longhorn Dr., from Happy Camp to Bronc Ct., with the project “scheduled to be complete within the next 12 weeks.”

Residents may periodically see “Temporary No Parking” signs posted, but will have access to their property at all times.

In a March 2010 issue of The Friday Flyer, it was reported that “long-suffering Longhorn Dr. residents” were continuing to see progress in front of their homes as International Pavement Solutions’ big equipment was finishing the second and third stretches of pavement in Phase 2 of the Road Project.

Phase 2 work had begun almost a year earlier, following the completion of EVMWD’s Longhorn Dr. Sewer Replacement Project. Before that was EVMWD’s Longhorn Lift Station Project. Along the way, Verizon also came in with equipment to lay FiOS cable.

The 2010 article noted, “Just when it looked like the years of construction on those projects were over and the replacement of asphalt on Longhorn Dr. could begin in earnest, a break in the main waterline in May 2009 revealed the entire 7,200 linear feet of waterline underneath the roadway would need to be replaced from Appaloosa Dr. to Vacation Dr.”

Work on replacing the waterline didn’t begin until September 2009; it was completed just before Thanksgiving that year. As IPS equipment once again moved in to continue the work of replacing asphalt in three consecutive 60,000 sq. ft. sections, problems were encountered with the recently completed EVMWD waterline trenches, necessitating more delays until those issues were resolved. The fact that 2004/2005 was a rainy winter also delayed the road project.

So here we are again. Hang in there, you Longhorn cowpokes!
