JUNE 24, 2016 THE FRIDAY FLYER A-7 Learn-to-Ride Day to honor Ruppert memory
The Wakeboard Club will host a Learn-to-Ride Day this Sunday, June 26, starting at 9 a.m. in the North Ski Area. The cost is $15, with boats and equip- ment provided. The day is devoted to instruction in wakeboarding, wakeskat- ing and safe boating, and also will honor the memory of John Ruppert, a young Canyon Lake father who died June 9 in a tragic accident while house-boating with his family.
As an avid wakeboarder and mem- ber of the Canyon Lake Wakeboard Club board of directors, John helped run Learn to Ride Days, says Club President Dave Clarke.
A memorial service was held Monday at Canyon Lake Community Church, where John’s good friend, Jared Cut- ler, was one of the speakers. In a trib- ute written for wakeworld.com, Jared wrote, “John was a dedicated father, husband, firefighter, believer, friend and one genuinely passionate wakeboarder who always made it a goal annually to wakeboard every month of the year, re- gardless of how cold it was.
“John’s drive and determination is what motivated him to pursue a career in firefighting, and his steadfastness in God is what helped to keep this family man grounded in faith. A father to two amazing children, Jackson (7) and Kei- ra (5), and husband to a beautiful wife, Kristen, John was living the clichéd ‘All-American dream’ . . .”
Dave says all proceeds from Sunday’s Learn to Ride event will be given to John’s family. In addition, “In memory of” stickers will be available for a dona- tion to show support for this friend and neighbor.
Condolence cards may be sent to the Ruppert family at 23596 Cutter Dr. Those who knew John are invited to

send stories, photos and memories that will remind his family members how many lives he touched.
Two online sites also are available for making donations. A GoFundMe ac-
count has been set up to help pay for ex- penses. To donate, visit https://www.go- fundme.com/supporttheRupperts. The Fire Family Foundation has established a fund for the Ruppert family as well.
It claims 100 percent of donations will go to the family and are tax deductible. Visit FireFamilyFoundation.org.
