A-6 THE FRIDAY FLYER AUGUST 14, 2015 Have fun, support a cause at Baine Fundraiser
Canyon Lakers are invited to show their support of the Danny Baine fam- ily at a Supercross party fundraiser to- morrow, August 15, from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Canyon Lake Country Club. Watch Supercross and enjoy a live auc- tion, silent auction and prizes from local companies.
Spokesperson Ron Almada says, “We will be watching Supercross with DJ and MC to keep everything rolling. We also will have food and drinks for purchase. All proceeds will go to the Baine family to pay day-to-day bills.”
As reported last month, Danny Baine, a Canyon Lake resident and father of three children, has Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), a chronic, progres- sive and devastating autoimmune disease of the bile ducts that often leads to liver failure. He is unable to work until he re- ceives a liver transplant and recovers.
The Mayo Clinic describes PSC as a disease of the bile ducts, which carry the digestive liquid bile from one’s liver to the small intestine. In PSC, inflamma- tion causes scars within the bile ducts. These scars make the ducts hard and narrow and gradually cause serious liver damage.
It’s not clear what causes the disease. An immune system reaction to an infec-
tion or toxin may trigger it in people who are genetically predisposed. In most people with PSC, the disease progresses slowly and can lead to liver failure, re- peated infections, and tumors of the bile duct or liver. The only known cure is a liver transplant
Danny’s wife, Jen, says that they dis- covered his disease one morning back in 2009 when Danny’s skin turned yellow. Since then, the disease has progressed and he no longer can work.
Jamie Pulver, a Canyon Lake resident and family friend, has organized a Meal Train for the family. Those who would like to sign up to deliver a home cooked meal, or arrange for a local restaurant to deliver one, can sign up at www.meal- train.com/trains/q74141.
To help ease some of the family’s fi- nancial burden, a GoFundMe account has been set up. To contribute, visit www.gofundme.com and type “Baine Family” in the website’s search bar.
A Facebook page was created to keep everyone informed about Danny’s jour- ney and the family’s fundraising activi- ties, and to help raise awareness about Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis and liv- ing donors. It can be found by search- ing “Staying Strong for Dan Baine.” For more information, call 951-283-3800.

Save the date for Miss CL Scholarship Pageant
Canyon Lakers are invited to save the date and head to the Lodge in support of young women vying in the Miss Canyon Lake Scholarship Pageant on Saturday, August 29, at 7 p.m.
The final signup date to be involved in this year’s pageant is Monday, Au- gust 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Pool View
Room at the Lodge. Ages 5 to 25 are eligible to participate. Anyone compet- ing for Miss Canyon Lake must be a se- nior in high school or currently attend- ing college.
The Miss Canyon Lake Scholarship Pageant has been a community tradi- tion for many years. This program em-
phasizes the ability of the Royal Court and Talent Court to participate in com- munity service, volunteer service and education.
All Miss and Teen contestants will be required to have interviews, know facts about their community, and have a plat- form outlining a community service or
volunteer program that they will active- ly promote within Canyon Lake.
There is a Talent Competition portion of the program; however, it is optional. Displaying a talent is not a requirement to be in the pageant. For more informa- tion, call Executive Director CoCo Mor- rison at 951-204-7777.
