Toastmasters to meet in Canyon Lake

Next Tuesday, October 6, from 12:05 to 1:05 p.m., the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce Toastmasters Club will conduct its first meeting in the City Multi-purpose Room/Council Chamber.Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that offers a program of communication and leadership projects designed to help people learn the arts of speaking, listening and thinking.

According to Chamber board member Mike Irvin, Toastmasters transforms the lives of those who participate in the program.

“Most people fear public speaking more than death,” says Mike, Area C5 Director and Toastmaster for three years. “I recall the fear I felt when it was time for me to introduce myself at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon. All I had to do was say my name – I was terrified. Toastmasters helped me overcome the terror I used to feel when I had to speak before an audience. It has been a gradual journey from terror to feeling comfortable in my own skin.. The experience has changed my life.”

Toastmasters is for people over the age of 18 in all walks of life. Mike says, “We have members who are physicians, attorneys, accountants, politicians, real estate agents, homemakers and a rocket scientist (seriously).” For more information, call Mike at 951-660-6794.
