Lake cleanup is tomorrow

Members of the Yacht Club will “crew up” four pontoon boats tomorrow, May 2, to give back a few hours to the community in the form of an annual Lake Cleanup Day. They will be picking up trash on the lake and near the shoreline, and will end their day will a large collection of plastic garbage bags filled with flotsam. They will make a note of large items such as tree limbs for Operations to remove.

Says Yacht Club Commodore Bob Templeton, “One thing about enjoying our lake, everybody needs to pitch in and help keep it clean. I’m talking about fishing out the plastic bag that blows overboard, or the cardboard from the refreshments someone just finished. Yes, we have people employed that help keep it clean, but we really need to wake up and do our part.”

He adds, “Helping with this cleanup idea is pretty simple. Carry a large trash bag on your boat. When you see something that doesn’t belong (and the area is safe), bag it! If it’s too large, let the Marine Patrol knows where it is.

Meetings of the Yacht Club are held on the fourth Thursday of the month at the Lodge. Boat ownership is not a criterion for membership. Members enjoy fun events throughout the year, including the Moonlight Cruise, Progressive Dinner, Lake Cleanup and more.
