There are activities morning and evening for Canyon Lakers to enjoy tomorrow, May 7. Everyone is invited to watch as Canyon Lake ShowCal Skiers perform their first show of the season, starting at 5 p.m. in the North Ski Area.
But before that, first thing Saturday morning, the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club is hosting a Community Swapmeet from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at East Port Park. The club will be selling hot dogs, chips, snack food and beverages to keep everyone powered up during their treasure-seeking or selling.
Shopping will be by golf cart, bicycle and foot traffic only. The sale will start at 8 a.m.; no early-bird shoppers will be allowed during setup.
“Come one, come all!” says spokesperson Shawna Bowen. “This will be a great day to find bargains, treasures and see what’s new at the vendor booths!"
Then bring a picnic and kick back in the late afternoon to watch ShowCal skiers perform a variety of ski stunts they have been practicing this spring in the Jump Lagoon. This group is made up of skiers ranging in age from 5 to 50, skiers and non-skiers. The non-
skiers help with running the shows and other important tasks in support of the performers, making this club fun for the whole family.
“Come on out and see what’s new for this season, and if you have an interest in joining the team, feel free to come and say hi,” says ShowCal Skiers President Scott Redlin.
The ShowCal Skiers make up California’s first and only USA Waterski- sanctioned water ski show team. For more information, visit www.showcalskiers. com or contact showcalskiers@gmail. com or 858-395-7541.
ShowCal isn’t the only club on the water right now. The Ski Club and Wakeboard Club are gearing up for their summer tournaments and learn-to-ride days.
The Wakeboard Club will host a Learn to Ride Day next Sunday, May 15, starting at 9 a.m. in the North Ski Area. The day is devoted to instructing those who want to learn about wakeboarding, wakeskating and safe boating. The cost is $15.
Preparing ShowCal Skiers' youngest
members for showtime are ShowCal President Scott Redlin, at left, and longtime show skier Tony Klarich. The little performers are Reece Walsh and Allie Norred, both 5.
