Two POA Board of Directors
seats up for election in May
The two-year terms of Paul Queen and Dale
Welty expire in May. Members interested in run-
ning for the two Board of Directors seats must
complete and turn in an Intent to Run packet to
the POA office by Friday, Mar. 2 at 3 p.m.
The form must be completed by candidates
or by a nominating member and received by the
Nominating Committee by the deadline in order
to ensure the candidate’s name appears on the bal-
lot.
Regardless of whether a candidacy form was
completed, any candidate may still be nominated
by himself, herself, or by someone else from the
floor of the Annual Meeting.
All candidates must be a Prime or Associate
member of the Canyon Lake Property Owners As-
sociation and in good standing, as required by the
By-Laws. Candidates must not have been convict-
ed of a crime that involves moral turpitude within
the past 10 years.
A Candidate Orientation Meeting will be held
on Friday, Mar. 9, at 2 p.m. in the POA Confer-
ence Room. Campaigning is not allowed prior to
the meeting. Campaign signs may be placed in the
community beginning Saturday, Mar. 11.
Ballots will be mailed to members Thursday,
Apr. 5. The Annual Meeting of the Members and
Election of Directors will be held Thursday, May
10, at 8 a.m. at the lodge. The alternate date if a
quorum is not met is Saturday, May 12.
The five members on the Board of Directors
are collectively responsible for the management
and operation of the POA’s business affairs. Terms
are for two years. For questions about the elec-

Nominate veterans
for 2018 Veterans
Service Awards
California Senator Jeff Stone encourages veterans
group and others to nominate worthy individuals for
his annual 2018 Veterans Service Awards. The deadline
to submit nominations is Apr. 20.
The awards are given annually to 10 military veter-
ans from the 28th Senate District who have gone above
and beyond the call of duty to help their fellow veter-
ans and members of the community.
Senator Stone will present the awards in late May
at separate ceremonies held in southwest Riverside
County and the Coachella Valley.
“We owe our veterans a debt that can never be re-

token of our thanks and appreciation for what they
have done, not only during their time in uniform but
after they returned home.”
Paul Queen Veterans groups, such as American Legion and Vet-
erans of Foreign Wars Posts, are encouraged to nomi-
nate a member of their organization for the award. In-
dividuals can also nominate worthy veterans.
Award recipients must work or live in the 28th Dis-
trict, which is entirely in Riverside County and includes
the cities of Blythe, Canyon Lake, Cathedral City,
Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, Indio,
Lake Elsinore, La Quinta, Murrieta, Temecula, Palm
Desert, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage and Wildomar.
Once the nominations are received, Senator Stone
will get together with the veterans on his staff and will
select the 10 award winners for this year.
There are 1.7 million veterans in California, more
than any other state. Riverside County has 129,000 vet-
erans. Links to federal, state, county and local veteran
services are posted on Senator Stone’s website.
