THE FRIDAY FLYER A-3 Canyon Lake's Fire Station 60 set to reopen on July 3
Canyon Lake's lone re station will reopen July 3. A ribbon-cutting is planned for July 15.
The reopening of Canyon Lake Fire Station 60 has been moved from July 1 to July 3. The city will celebrate the station’s reopening with a ribbon- cutting ceremony on July 15. Mayor Pro Tem Vicki Warren said, “We invite the community to attend the ribbon-cutting, meet our firefighters and have some cake.”
The closure of Canyon Lake’s lone fire station in 2015 was a result of a dispute with county fire officials over the cost of services.
The reopening comes after pleading with the county for two years to serve Canyon Lake with a smaller crew at a lesser cost so that Canyon Lake could reopen Fire Station 60.
The Board of Supervisors approved a new one-year fire protection contract on May 9 for the City of Canyon Lake. The agreement included the station opening
with a two-man engine, including a paramedic.
Reopening Fire Station 60 comes at a cost of $1.4 million. “A substantially less cost than the $2.1 million it was headed before the station closed,” said Vicki.
The city leases the station from the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association. The lease requires the city to pay for the building’s maintenance.
After a two-year hiatus, the station was in need of repairs. In April, the city council approved $110,000 for the much needed repairs. The repairs are underway.
Vicki says, “This is a great step for Canyon Lake. The city council has worked hard on this for sure and in particular new council member Larry Greene, who has been most instrumental. Well done Canyon Lake.”

Although Maxi’s wounds are beginning to heal, the horse is still traumatized and depressed, and reluctant to come out of her stall.
“She’s been taken off her pain medicine since her ulcers are also a concern. She’s on antibiotics for her open wounds,” said Dori. “We’re just
trying to make her as comfortable as possible.”
Since the incident, Maxi has received many visitors at the barn. Dori said she is grateful for the support of the community and her friends at the barn.
“Maxi loves the attention and the carrots she’s been getting from the kids. It is so sweet to know that Maxi is loved by such kind people in the community.”
"Maxi loves watching the baseball games at Gault Field," said Dori. "She stands right next to the fence to get love and scratches from the kids."
