MARCH 24, 2017 THE FRIDAY FLYER A-5 Candidates discuss wanting to serve . . .
  CONTINUED FROM A4
a manager, contractor, building and HVAC inspector I am able to determine if our projects can be completed thor- oughly and on budget. I have the time to dedicate to the members, informing them of the process and finding the an- swers to their questions.
I retired in 2013, deactivated my Contractor’s License and settled into my home here in “a little bit of paradise.” My first purchase was a golf cart so I could learn about the community by first hand observation. I am amazed at the friendliness of all the people I see on my outings. I experienced the lake with a purchase of a pontoon boat. My last two homes were in an HOA so it was only natural to begin attending Board meet- ings to observe how the POA operated.
I began my career in a family owned supermarket in San Pedro. I worked my way from box boy to grocery manager. As grocery manager, I was responsible for inventory control, ordering, schedul- ing the front end help (check out clerks), stocking crew and receiving crew.
My second position was with 7-UP Bottling Co. I began as a delivery driv- er, salesman and delivery manager for the Orange Co. Branch. I transitioned
to Westinghouse Management in 1980 and excelled as the delivery manager in Orange County, managing three super- visors and 60 delivery drivers. I was re- sponsible for budgeting yearly require- ments and coordinating with the branch manager.
I left 7-UP in 1983 to be educated in heating and air conditioning service. I became a licensed contractor in 1989. I was in partnership with my brother and we serviced Los Angeles County. As an owner I was able to use my past expe- rience managing the books, creating spreadsheets to track income, service routes and expanding the business. We serviced and installed HVAC equipment for Bristol Farms, Nix Checking, Rich Development Co. , Prime Wheel and nu- merous strip malls.
I completed my career at Los Ange- les Unified School District. I became an HVAC inspector in 2003 and became DSA certified building inspector in 2006. I am capable of reading plans, co- ordinating with the architect, engineers and contractors. I became proficient in the building process, California Codes and Access Compliance.
I am committed to serving the mem- bers of this community. A vote for Mike Harris is a vote for the members.
Residents invited to ‘Meet the Candidates’ forums
There are three upcoming Meet the Candidate forums scheduled. The fo- rums provide residents with an oppor- tunity to meet the candidates running for the POA Board of Directors and learn where they stand on POA related issues.
The first forum will be held on at the Senior Center on April 8 at 10 a.m. This forum is sponsored by the Senior Work Group. Seating is limited, attendees should arrive early.
The fourth annual “Speak to the Candidates” will be held on April 10 at 7 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge. At this forum, moderated by resident Joanna Spiller and River- side County Supervisor Kevin Jeffries,
homeowners will be able to speak di- rectly to the candidates with questions that are important to them and hear firsthand each candidate’s response. This forum is sponsored by more than 20 Canyon Lake clubs.
The Chamber will host a Meet the POA Candidates luncheon on Wednes- day, April 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall.
This forum will provide an oppor- tunity for the candidates to speak to residents, local business owners and Chamber members. The luncheon will be catered by The Sports Stop and The Cup Above. Lunch is $8. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Chamber at 951-244-6124.

Help Lioness Club collect pull-tabs for Ronald McDonald House Fundraiser
Every year the Canyon Lake Lion- ess Club welcomes donations of pull- tabs from residents and combines them with their own collection to raise funds for the Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House.
The Loma Linda House supports more than 24 families each night. A fee
of $5 per night is charged; however, no family is ever turned away due to inabil- ity to pay. Funds to operate the Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House come from contributions through individual gifts, events, donations and grants.
The Pull-Tab Collection Program was established in 1987 by the Minneapolis/
St.Paul Ronald McDonald House com- munity. Many Ronald McDonald Hous- es work with local recycling centers to receive money for collecting tabs from aluminum cans.
To date, across the country, more than 400 million pull tabs have been collect- ed, generating more than $4 million.
The Canyon Lake Lioness Club plans to deliver its collection of pull-tabs on Friday, May 5th.
Anyone wishing to donate pull-tabs may give them to any member of the Lioness Club or deliver them to Joanna Spiller at 23651 Cruise Circle Drive any time before May 3rd.
