Play or sponsor Brett Downey Charity Tourney
The Brett Downey Safety Foundation will host the 11th annual Charity Golf Tour- nament on Saturday, October 24 at the Menifee Lakes Country Club. The shotgun start is at 12 noon. Enjoy a day filled with golf, camaraderie, prizes, food and drinks.
Proceeds from the annual tournament help send Safety Foundation ambassadors to key amateur motorcycle races to assist with flagger training.
Named for the Canyon Lake boy who was killed in 2004, at the age of 11 at a mo- tocross track where there were no flaggers to warn oncoming riders he was down, the Brett Downey Safety Foundation promotes safety education and awareness to tracks, promoters, riders andparents, along with helping support smaller tracks across the U.S. and Canada by providing flagger train- ing DVDs. This year’s golf tournament of- fers numerous opportunities for Canyon Lakers tosupport the Safety Foundation. Whether it’s signing up as a golfer, becom- ing a major sponsor, signing up for a tee or donating product for the auction, drawing or
goody bag, there’s a chance for everyone to get involved.
The cost for individual players is $150 per person, which includes green fees, cart,
goody bag and dinner. Information on time, format, levels of sponsorship and more can be found at mxsafety38.org. Entries close October 17.
Begun by Brett’s parents, Canyon Lake residents Jim and Kathy Downey, the Brett Downey Safety Foundation was established in 2004 as a non-profit organiza- tion led by a volunteer staff. Its mission is to supplement the motocross community by increasing safety awareness of riders, parents, track owners and promoters to help make the sport of motocross as safe as possible by minimizing injuries and helping to preserve all motocross tracks.
