A-4 THE FRIDAY FLYER SEPTEMBER 4, 2015 Candidates announced for POA Special Election
Just two candidates completed the pa- perwork necessary to run for the Board of Directors in the Special Meeting of Members Recall and Election scheduled for October 15. They are George Irvine and Michael J. Harris. Notice of Intent to Run was due by August 31.
At a regular meeting of the CLPOA Board of Directors on July 21, former POA Treasurer Sean McDonald (2011- 2013) presented a packet containing 286 signed petitions calling for the recall of Directors David Eilers, Bruce Yar- brough and Doug Gordon. The number of petitions met the minimum required for a recall election in Canyon Lake un- der the Davis-Stirling Act.
Chamber Luncheon
The next Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be held Wednesday, September 9, at 11:30 a.m. at Pepe’s Restaurant. The special speaker will be Karen Baumgartner, chief operating officer with Aslar Industries.
Prior to her work with Aslar, Baumgartner was an EMT skills instructor at Pasa- dena City College. She also serves as an environment, health and safety technician, and assistant at the California Institute of Technology, where she has worked for nine years. Karen volunteers with the United Nations, Infragard, Pasadena Police Department, Toastmasters, Co-Masonry, the Tournament of Roses, the Health Phys- ics Society, the US Green Building Council and the California Science Center.
Cost of lunch is $14. Please RSVP by phone or email Chamber Director Alison Burrafato at 951-244-6124 or canyonlakechamber@outlook.com.
Oktoberfest
The Chamber is getting ready for Oktoberfest in the Towne Center on Saturday, October 3, from 5 to 9 p.m. A limited number of craft/merchandise vendor booths are available; children’s activities are encouraged. The booth cost is $20 for Cham- ber members; $25 for non-Chamber members. Interested vendors should contact Alison at the Chamber office. To learn more, visit www.canyonlakechamber.org. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Inspector of Election will be Feldsott & Lee, A Law Corporation. The Notice of Annual Meeting, Ballots and Candidate Statements are scheduled to be mailed to primary members by September 15. Civil code requires they be sent out at least 30 days prior to the meeting date, which is October 15. If quorum isn’t met on that date, the alter- nate date will be October 17.
In the event of a successful recall, a vote to elect new Directors to fill the va- cant Director seat(s) will take place at that time.
Effective August 14, David Eilers re- linquished his role as CLPOA President but says he will remain on the Board and
serve the remainder of his term through May 2016 (pending recall). Vice-Presi- dent Douglas Gordon has taken on the duties of President until next Tuesday’s Board Meeting, at which time a vote will be held for new positions.
During the Emergency Executive Session of the Board of Directors held on Friday August 7, the Board deter- mined that an immediate rule change was needed to prohibit the consumption of alcohol at Board meetings so as to protect the safety of the membership and to help insure that meetings are conduct- ed in an orderly manner. The following rule was put in place for a period of 120 days: “No alcohol shall be permitted or
consumed at Board meetings, member- ship meetings, committee meetings or CLPOA workshops. Failure to comply with this rule will (result in the member being) asked to leave the meeting and be subject to a fine.”
