FEBRUARY 20, 2015 THE FRIDAY FLYER A-3 Tuesday Work Group is looking for volunteers
Like the Marine Corps, the Tuesday Work Group is looking for a few good men. The volunteer work group has more than 50 members who come to- gether each week to enhance the com- munity by taking on projects on the Golf Course and around the community.
Most recently, the group removed an old hand railing and 100 feet of wrought iron fencing near the Country Club. Other recent projects have included as- sisting with the Turf Reduction Project.
The concept of this volunteer work group started more than 35 years ago at the Golf Course. Over the years, many projects have been completed by the group, which meets every Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. from October through June.
They start out in the maintenance yard, which is behind the 10th green. Volunteers can walk there or drive their golf cart. They work for approximately four hours and, depending on the proj- ect, may meet an additional day of the
week to complete work.
Tuesday Work Group Project Man-
ager Sam Theodora says, “If you have Tuesday mornings free and want to give something back to this terrific little bit of paradise called Canyon Lake, please join us. We can promise you a hot cup of coffee, a donut and the greatest bunch of characters you will ever meet.” Indi- viduals interested in joining the group should arrive at the Golf Course Mainte- nance Yard at 7:30 a.m. First-timers get two donuts!
For questions or information about joining the Tuesday Work Group, please call Chair Dave Nickel at 951-244- 9827, Project Manager Sam Theodora at 951-244-4474 or John Christensen at 951-244-3425.

provide a preliminary landscape design for the Golf Course that would include upgrading the aging irrigation system and converting several acres of turf to drought-tolerant landscaping.
The designer told the Association it would cost about $1.2 million to con- vert the turf areas to drought-tolerant landscape. However, through this rebate program, the turf-reduction and replant- ing process is expected to be paid for through outside funds. MWD says a re- bate of up to $1.5 million will be mailed to the Association four to six weeks af- ter final materials and documentation of Canyon Lake’s Turf Reduction Program have been submitted and approved by MWD.
According to Bruce, the date set for completion of the Turf Reduction Pro- gram is May 2, 2015.
