Canyon Lake Resident Kaitlyn Basham, a senior at Temescal Canyon High School, was named Student of the Month in October. Kaitlyn was among seven Student of the Month Program honorees feted at a recognition luncheon on Oct. 17.
Kaitlyn told the audience of 100 she wants to become a traveling nurse with the Breath of Heaven (BOH) organization in Zambia where she visited with her church in 2014. She hopes to return to the BOH village and work at the Hope Clinic that is now being built.
Kaitlyn has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. She was the recipient of the 2016 Rotary Youth Leadership Award. Her high school life includes serving as the varsity cheerleading team captain, class vice president and ASB vice president and historian. She served as class president during her sophomore year.
The honor student has served more than 500 community hours. In 2010, Kaitlyn represented Canyon Lake as Young Miss Canyon Lake.
Kaitlyn plans to study nursing at San Diego State University after graduation.
“I am so proud of my beautiful and bright Kaitlyn Joy. It is not hard to be overcome with emotion when I see my baby girls hard work being spotlighted. She puts her heart and soul into everything she does and it is impossible to imagine that this gift from God is a senior,” said Kaitlyn’s mother Janelle Basham.” Her nurturing and loving personality will serve her well in the field of nursing.
The Student of the Month program celebrates 22 years in Lake Elsinore after being founded in Temecula by Sally Myers, BMW, Management, Inc., in 1992.
The Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce is the Lake Elsinore program’s host and sponsor.
