Here’s what’s happening at the library in November

Play Day is growing with more than 60 people attending the social educational program.  Typhanie Sharfner, of Mentoring Tiny Humans and a MomCo hostess, provided the crafts, A’s Pizza donated pizza, Chick-fil-A provided treat coupons and the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library provided drinks, additional pizza and developmental toys for the play corner. Tanya Murguia provided yoga games and Gretchen Blackford told stories about skeletons reinforced with a skeleton craft.

The Play Day program allows children to socialize and play and parents to network with other parents and spend time with their children. Crafts are offered for individual creativity and motor skill development and yoga is offered for coordination and physical development.

The Play Day program includes Toddler Story Time, led by Canyon Lake resident Gretchen Blackford. Toddler Story Time is held on Mondays at 11 a.m. The program is expanded with Play Day on the last Monday of the month.

Miss Ginny’s Story Time meets today, Nov. 3, at 11:30 a.m. in the downstairs from the library. The theme is Jump into Story Time with the Dolphins. The every other Friday program of story, music and craft is designed for preschoolers. Participants should check into the library to obtain a name tag first.

Tutoring continues on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. with student volunteers. The students are academically accomplished high school students helping younger children with their school work. The program is designed to use students instead of adult tutors to help younger children over rough spots in their studies. The tutors earn volunteer credits for their time.

The Riverside County Library System provides an online tutoring service for all ages through Brainfuse. It’s available from home seven days a week at rivlib.net. The service provides assistance with upgrading mathematics skills, improving writing skills, GED study assistance and help with resume construction and review, to name a few.

Writers Club, a creative writing group exploring self-expression through writing, meets on Mondays from 3:30 to 3:30 p.m.  The free program is for middle school age kids.

Toddler Story Time will continue to meet during the upcoming holidays. The craft and story program for children ages three and under meets on Mondays at 11 a.m.

The Riverside County Library branches will be closed on Nov. 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day. All library branches, including the Canyon Lake Library, will be closed.

The Canyon Lake Library is a collaboration with the City of Canyon Lake and the Riverside County Library System. It’s located inside the city hall building in the Towne Center at 31516 Railroad Canyon Rd.

Hours are Mondays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is closed Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
