Kids Fishing Derby scheduled for Sept. 16

The 31st annual Kids Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Holiday Harbor Park. This is a free event for children ages five to 15. Traditionally, a few hundred kids participate in this annual event sponsored by the Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club.

Registration is from 6 to 8 p.m. Worms will be handed out at registration; supplies are limited. Fishing is from 6 to 11 a.m. Kids may fish anywhere on the lake. Fish weigh-in is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Holiday Harbor Park

Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. Lunch is complimentary of the Bassmasters Club and consists of hot dogs, chips, water, soda and snow cones.

Awards will be handed out at 1 p.m. Trophies are awarded in different age groups (five to seven, eight to 11 and 12 to 15) plus one for “Big Fish” in each species and “Big Fish” for one boy and one girl.

“Every child who participates will go home with a prize,” said Bassmasters Club Treasurer Jude Donahue.

A special opportunity drawing will be held for a chance to win an Aqua Lilly Pad.
